Defiance players called into United States Youth National Teams

Danny Leyva and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez named to USA’s U-17 Concacaf roster. Austin Brummett off to USA's U-15 roster.

In the coming weeks both the United States U-17s and U-15s are representing the nation in significant tournaments. The U-17s are in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying from May 1-16 with Tacoma Defiance forward Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez earning selection. The U-15s journey to Italy for the 2019 Torneo delle Nazioni with forward Austin Brummett representing Tacoma Defiance and Seattle Sounders FC. Brummett just became the youngest player (15 years, 65 days) to take the field in USL Championship history with his sub appearance in the loss to Phoenix Rising over the weekend.

On the U-17 roster with Ocampo-Chavez is midfielder Danny Leyva, who recently signed with Seattle Sounders FC as a Homegrown Player. Leyva has 354 minutes with Tacoma Defiance in 2019. Leyva and Ocampo-Chavez will miss the May 4 match at Oklahoma City Energy FC (5:30 pm, ESPN+) and Sunday May 12’s Day of Defiance when Cheney Stadium hosts Portland Timbers 2 (1:30 pm, tickets available).

Ocampo-Chavez is the leading scorer for the US U-17s with five goals in the cycle. He just won the golden boot with the Sounders Academy U-17s at the GA Cup. Danny Leyva won the Golden Ball as the GA Cup’s best player. The U-17s are attempting to qualify for the U-17 World Cup in Brazil. In the group stage they face Canada, Barbados, and Guatemala. The four semifinalists will qualify for the World Cup.

Brummett is joined on the US U-15 roster by Seattle Sounders Academy defender Angel Martinez. In the group stage of the tournament, the two will face India, Slovenia, and Mexico. This tournament runs from April 23 to May 5. It serves the USBNT as preparation for the summer’s 2019 Concacaf U-15 Boys’ Championship. Brummett will be unavailable for selection for Tacoma Defiance in matches on April 26 at San Antonio FC (5:30 pm, ESPN+) and on May 4 at OKC Energy (5:30 pm, ESPN+).
