Starting a two-match traditional road trip, Tacoma Defiance are taking on Orange County SC at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, California. Facing last year’s USL Western Conference regular season champions is a tough test. As of now, Defiance sit above the playoff line with six points on the season. After getting their first win last weekend, Orange County is just off that pace with five points.
Coach Little likes the test that OC offers. “The results have been mixed for them,” he said. “But they are a very good team, experienced. It will be a tough game, but this is why we do this. This is why we run the team as a club. For us going to a good environment and stadium, nice field – Orange County play good football with possession. It’s an opportunity to go test ourselves against experienced professional players.”
Sam Rogers is back healthy
“We continue to learn a lot about ourselves, but what we’re really excited about on this road trip is that Sam Rogers will return for the first time in several months. It will be really good to get him back with the group. He’s the natural leader of our group. It’s really exciting for him to be back.”
Orange County notes
- Former Sounders FC Homegrown Player Darwin Jones just appeared in the USL Championship Team of the Week. He generally plays as a wide midfielder and will test the outside backs with a combination of speed and strength.
- Aodhan Quinn can punish with goals and chances created. He is particularly effective on set-pieces.
- Strong in defense. OC has a 73% success rate on tackles.
- Quick into attack. Willing to sacrifice possession, OC will look to strike quick.
