Executive Vice President, Club Performance & League Growth
Charles Altchek leads the League’s Club Performance group, focusing on driving team business performance. The group works closely with club owners, chief business officers, and executives across MLS to identify strategies, share best practices, and implement performance metrics to drive long-term growth and value for the League and its teams. Altchek also oversees club-related strategic transactions and considers potential markets in the event the League decides to pursue expansion in the future.
Altchek has been with Major League Soccer for more than a decade, including his tenure as President of MLS NEXT Pro from December, 2021 – September, 2025. He led the League’s successful launch and led expansion from 21 teams to 29 clubs, with five more joining in the next few years. In addition to his role with MLS NEXT Pro, he oversaw the entire MLS player development pathway, which also includes MLS NEXT, the elite youth development platform for top boys' academies across the U.S. and Canada, and MLS Go, a recreational program designed to introduce young players to the game in local communities.
Altchek joined MLS’ Commissioner’s Office in 2014 and later served as Executive Vice President of MLS, leading expansion strategy and playing a role in the establishment of nearly a third of the league’s teams. Prior to joining MLS, he worked for the New York Red Bulls and the New York Mets. Before beginning his sports business career, he worked at Goldman Sachs in the fixed income division.
Altchek has been recognized throughout the industry for his outstanding leadership, having been honored by Sports Business Journal as a member of their distinguished Forty Under 40 Class of 2023 and again in 2025.
A graduate of Harvard College, Altchek captained the men’s soccer team and was named Ivy League Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons and was inducted into the Harvard Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. Altchek also earned his MBA at Columbia University. Altchek resides in New Canaan, CT with his wife and four children.
