Toronto Soars to Club-Record Six Goals in Canadian Classique Victory

Behind a pair of goals from both Federico Bernardeschi and Theo Corbeanu and scores from Tyrese Spicer and Ola Brynhildsen, Toronto FC scored six goals in a match for the first time in the club’s history in a 6-1 win over CF Montréal. Toronto (13 points, 3-7-4) have won two of their last three matches and have won three consecutive MLS matches against their Canadian Classique foe.

Toronto burst out of the gates, as Spicer found the back of the net in the 14th minute for his first score of the year (Watch Here). After Montréal’s Joel Waterman was sent off following a red card in the 21st minute, the scoring floodgates opened for Toronto with Bernardeschi (30’, Watch Here) and Brynhildsen (33’, Watch Here) scoring before halftime.

Bernardeschi completed his brace in the 55th minute with a rocketed left foot from just inside the 18-yard box (Watch Here). Bernardeschi, who became the first player in club history to notch two goals and two assists in a match, scored his seventh and eighth goals against Montréal, which are second-most by a Toronto FC player against their rival behind only Jozy Altidore (nine). The Italian forward now has 25 career goals and 19 career assists in 87 MLS matches.
