Sam Adeniran bags a hat trick in the win; Tacoma stays at home to host Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday, October 13

TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (9-12-6, 33 points) defeated Orange County SC (10-10-7, 37 points) 4-1 at Cheney Stadium Saturday evening, with Sam Adeniran scoring a hat trick as Tacoma snapped a seven-match losing skid.

Adeniran got the home side on the board early in the second half, firing a left-footed shot from just outside the area that curled past Orange County goalkeeper Abraham Romero in the 46th minute. Adeniran quickly found the back of the net again in the 52nd minute when he received a pass from Danny Robles right outside the six-yard-box and was able to chip Romero to record his second goal of the night.

Orange County quickly got back into the match in the 60th minute when a deflected ball found the feet of substitute Ben Mines inside the 18-yard-box, who scored across the face of goal past the outstretched hands of Christian Herrera.

Alec Díaz scored his third goal of the season in the 90th minute when two Defiance shots were saved by Romero, leading Díaz to clean up the second rebound to put the home side up 3-1.

Adeniran completed the hat trick in second-half stoppage time when he received a quickly taken free, launching a ball past the goalkeeper from just inside the area to score his team-leading 10th goal of the season.

With the win, Tacoma sits in sixth place in the Pacific Division standings, two points behind LA Galaxy II for the final playoff spot with five games remaining in the regular season.

Defiance faces a quick turnaround as it hosts Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday, October 13 (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
