Up next is Jesse Daley.
There’s something special about Cup competitions. Amateur teams get a shot at glory against pro teams. Jesse Daley went on a run with small club South Melbourne back in the 2017 FFA Cup. After three wins, South Melborne bumped into a bigger Sydney team.
“I love the Cup competitions. I’m a little bit of a football romantic in that way. When an amateur team knocks out a pro side and stuff like that, I think it’s fantastic. When teams go on runs it’s awesome. That’s what football is all about.”
With Tacoma, Daley’s taken on a leadership role. He does not wear the armband, but he came up with the scheme for the 9.17 second goal on May 18th. He has four assists in his season plus of action in Tacoma and is a defensive stalwart.
“Every game is an opportunity, with Tacoma, to impress the First Team staff. That’s the pleasure of being part of a big organization like the Sounders. There’s always someone watching you. There’s always opportunity if you are performing at a level. It’s important to go out there and give your best.”
He hopes to secure that opportunity in front of his team’s home town.
“It’s great for the city of Tacoma. We’ve been playing games there for 18 months now. It’s been fantastic. I think it’s a great opportunity for us who play and for the city.”
And it helps that this 4th Round match is against Portland.
“All the supporters care about this game so much. When you see any stadium packed in a derby, it’s a special atmosphere. I’m sure it will be like that at Cheney.”
Sounders FC will take on the Portland Timbers at Cheney Stadium in the 4th Round of the 2019 U.S. Open Cup. For ticket information click here.
